Our team is passionate about heritage and proud to care for this remarkable building. As a uniquely small but experienced group, we balance the demands of running a busy visitor attraction with the vital work of restoring and conserving Stowe House’s incredible history.

Being fairly new in the industry, I am grateful that my supervisor has offered me opportunities for further development and networking, which I believe has supported my continuing development as Community and Learning Officer.

Despite this being a historic site, the one thing I really love about Stowe is how it changes all the time. Not just the seasons, the visitors and the students, but our understanding of how the estate evolved, the historic changing of the locations of the temples, our restoration of the staterooms and the constant business of the place all year round.

I love working in such a beautiful building with so much history to explore. Every day is different, some days I may be on the roof looking at leaks, others I may be rifling (carefully) through the archive looking for a 300-year-old sketch. My work-life balance is very good, the team are passionate and understanding and I am able to adapt to childcare needs as and when they arise.

I love the fact that I learn something new about Stowe every day despite how long I’ve been working here. It underlines to me the complexities of a working estate 300 years ago and similar complexities of a working school, heritage attraction and estate now.

My team are receptive to my ideas and I love the balance between working closely with them whilst having the freedom to be creative in my programming.

It’s really important to us that we continue the tradition being a visitor attraction so that modern visitors can follow in the footsteps of eighteenth-century tourists. We are also a living, breathing site, ensuring the future of Stowe.

Although Stowe is a historic house, it is very much alive as a functioning venue, school, historical site and place for discovery. I love working in a dynamic site which welcomes thousands of people year-round in all sorts of capacities - not one day is ever the same!
